Acne is a disorder of the skin's sebaceous glands which results in plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions. One of the most common skin diseases, over 80% of the population ages 14-30 will suffer from it regardless of gender, geography or skin type and 25% of these patients will have permanent scarring from acne. Though usually considered a teenager problem, 20% of adults suffer from varying degrees of acne as well. For some its simply annoying. For many others however, acne is a significant problem that has a high impact on their lifestyle and quality of life.
Acne has typically been treated with prescription medications, both oral and topical forms. For some, this is helpful. For others it is not. For most, being on medications is less desirable than treating their skin condition with other method such as laser light energy.
Recent studies have shown that light in the blue color spectrum can reduce the appearance of acne, without the potential side effects of treating this condition with pills and creams. The Minneapolis Center for Cosmetic and Laser Surgery has been treating patients with this blue laser light since it was approved by the FDA. In many cases, the results have been truly remarkable.
